The K & J Flickinger Insurance Agency, Inc. has a long history of serving the Huron and Erie County areas. The C.R. Reddick Insurance Agency was the early predecessor to Flickinger Insurance Agency. Reddick started his agency in 1934.
K Stone Flickinger is an Ashland College graduate. After college, he worked as a Westfield Insurance Company underwriter and fieldman. Wanting to work for himself, K became part-owner of the C.R. Reddick Insurance Agency in 1954. Eventually, C.R. Reddick retired, and the agency became Flickinger Insurance Agency.
K and his wife raised a family of 5 children in Norwalk. In 1974, one of his children, John, joined the agency after he graduated from DePauw University. The agency incorporated in 1978 and became known as K&J Flickinger Insurance Agency, Inc. In 2000, K Stone retired, and John became president. After nearly 50 years of doing business on the second floor of the former Citizens National Bank building (now the Huron County offices), the agency moved to 30 East Main Street. This building was built in 1835 and served Norwalk as the American Hotel. For many years, Nobil’s Shoe Store occupied the 30 East Main Street building. In fact, the fun-house mirror that was in Nobil’s is still in the reception area of Flickinger Insurance Agency. At the end of 1999, John and Laurie Flickinger purchased the 30 East Main Street building and remodeled it for the new location of Flickinger Insurance.
John’s daughter, Amy Winkelman, joined the agency in 2005 beginning the third generation of ownership. Amy graduated from Ohio University in 2004 and is a true Bobcat. She lives in Norwalk with her husband, Chad, and two children, Lindy and Luke. Amy brings with her an excitement and passion to serve their old and new loyal customers alike.
K&J Flickinger Insurance Agency, Inc. has served the Norwalk area since 1954 and hopes to continue doing so for many more years.
